This is my first update of the scythe that I’m recreating from the Anime “Soul Eater.”
Summary: I’m making progress however I’ve hit a wall as I’ve run my incredibly limited knowledge of modeling.
So far I personally believe it’s going well, it’s been quite simple – using polygonal cylinders to create the basic handle, then changing the shape / size to fit the reference picture.
When adding initial details (particularly the head of the scythe) I was torn between using a basic cylinder and removing the centre or modeling the shape from 2 separate polygons, I ultimately decided to use booleans to help me because of the ease and simplicity of the tool.
To use the booleans I first clicked the “4” number key to turn the visuals of my objects from a solid entity to a wireframe, allowing me to see the overlap between polygons. From there I extended one of the cylinders so that it had no overlap with other objects (I found it more convenient to difference one object), to which I then created a cube, slimming it down to the correct size and slotting it in place. I then chose the cylinder I needed as the main object, Shift-clicking the cuboid and using “difference” under booleans, removing the object and the section of the cylinder it overlapped with.
I also found that while it doesn’t add anything to the render, the head of the scythe is similar to the head of a metal bolt (which gives me a good descriptor).

The eye-like shape was quite simple, I stretched a sphere and removed half of the faces (I don’t know why I did now that I type this, I didn’t want overlap but I should have just used the aforementioned booleans), then just moved it around until it was in place.
The blade of the scythe is what is troubling me right now, I extended a cuboid and used a deform-bend to bring it to a triangular point, however now I don’t know how to curve it in to the traditional scythe shape, I’m experimenting with bends but I’m not finding any success so far.
