My character model, based off of the Pandaren from World of Warcraft with references also being taken from Po (Kung fu Panda) as well as googling pictures of pandas to study.
I think this model is turning out well so far. I’ve had quite a lot of trouble creating it, originally using too many subdivisions and working with a high number of polygons that complicated things. Once that was rectified however I made a lot more progress in a shorter amount of time.
I think I struggled with topology and texture UV mapping the most during the creation process, I just couldn’t understand how the topology worked until I watched lots of videos explaining it. First I would just add extra subdivisions and edge loops on areas that had joints (and I think there’s some of that still on this character) but for the hands especially I had worked hard to try and create proper form and topology, focusing on edge rings.
I struggled the most with topology however when starting to work on the face, I couldn’t get the grease pencil tool to work so I could outline the edge rings, and then I didn’t know how to utilise the create polygon tool, being unable to mirror it or manipulate it in to being at the correct areas.
